New tequila and margarita bar opens in downtown Macon. Try a sip of Clase Azul Reposado
Offering a wide selection of tequila and hand-crafted margaritas, The Daisy Tequila and Margarita Bar opened Thursday in downtown Macon.
The three-day grand opening at the new bar at 581 Cherry St. continued Friday and Saturday at the nighttime spot at 518 Cherry St.
“We’re just two young entrepreneurs trying to make a difference in downtown,” said German Marin, who owns the bar with Martin Velinov.
The childhood friends met at Howard Middle School in Macon and later bartended together at a Mexican restaurant also in Macon. They’ve talked about opening a bar together a decade ago and now have made it happen.
Marin also co-owns, with his mom Angelica Marin, La Bella Morelia, a popular authentic Mexican restaurant on Mulberry Street in downtown Macon.
What to expect
The Daisy offers a large selection of tequila, including brands such as Cabo Wabo, Corralejo Blanco, 1942 Don Julio, Clase Azul and many more.
Clase Azul can run as as high as $15,000 a bottle, Marin said. A decanter of Clase Azul Tequila Reposado stocked at The Daisy is valued at $200, he said.
“The best way to drink tequila is to sip it,” Marin said. “You don’t want to waste it. You want to enjoy it.”
The Daisy also offers a Mezcal, another spirit made from the agave plant, Marin said. Mezcal is made from roasted agave, which gives it a smoky taste.
Their hand-crafted margarita selection include spicy grapefruit, blood orange, cucumber lime, espresso, pineapple jalapeno, dirty margarita, el dragon classico, the smokin’ marg, the skinny and and the el diablo.
Marin suggested trying the el dragon clasico, which is made with Casa Dragones tequila, Grand Marnier, agave nectar and fresh lime juice.
Their hand-crafted specialty drinks include ranch water, mojito blanco, pina dura, Mezcal fashion, blood orange peloma and humo paloma. A mojito blanco, for example, is made with Don Julio blanco tequila, mint leaves, lime juice, simple syrup and soda water.
Other offerings
Wine selections include chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, pinot grigio, pinot noir and prosecco split, according to the menu.
Draft beer and bottled beer also are offered. Bottled beers offered include Corona and Dos Equis.
The full-service bar also includes vodka, whiskey, bourbon and other spirits.
“We primarily specialize in tequila and margaritas,” Marin said. “But if you have a party of five come in, you may have someone who doesn’t drink tequila or margaritas and we want to have something for them.”
The new bar also serves appetizers, including guacamole, chips and salsa, cheese dip, shrimp ceviche, queso fundido with chorizo and jalapeno skins with chorizo and chicken.
Hours are 5 p.m. to midnight Tuesday through Saturday.
